Thinking About Death | Phuong Le Memo
Letter from Phuong Le:
"One year went by, two years went by, three years went by, 20 years went by, 50 years went by. If we’re afraid of something, we’ll do nothing toward our dreams.
As adults, we don’t like time passing; we freeze it because we haven’t taken action for what we want in life yet.
And in the moments when we’re busy fearing the "tick-tock" of the clock, time doesn’t stop. When we focus on work and the hustle to survive, we miss the small, beautiful things around us.
And then, if you think about death, in that moment, somehow you realize how short life is. You might see your mom getting older with time. And you’ll take action for your dreams, won’t you?
Phuong Le."
Thinking About Death. It starts with the duo-afraid, the fear of Death, and the future.
Isn’t it weird how humans are the strangest creatures on this planet, with the ability to decrease their own nature for a larger mass can link, communicate, and challenge nature.
We go beyond the limits of species, reaching out the star, yet still we we’re struggle with our own mind.
Year by year, century by century, poems come and go, leaving behind new ways to think, new ways to feel, and connecting people in their own way.
Thinking about Death shows what life looks like in fear. When we fear Death, we spend our whole lives in fear.
Anytime the clock is up, feel freak out, realizing time is passing by, how much it come to you?
In the context of our country, Phuong describes Death as something that comes within us.
How long will you delay thinking about Death? That’s the first question come to my mind when I read the poetry.
In the spring, poems are just like that. She describes the way people around her fear their aging, moving into the unknown, still they always hoping for new relationships, for marriage comes to their life.
When summer comes, with the flamboyant tree, the icon of Vietnam’s summer, and the áo dài, it showcases the wonderful moment of a school landscape.
In our minds, the way she describes it may bring strength, while for others, it feels familiar, like reality always unfolding. With one are you?
But Art is like that. I regret the lost romance of the country, where people before me once described the land. And that romance, in the way they wrote it, expressed it, Phuong’s poetry brings it back to me.
That’s makes me come to realize the romantic itself is by the soul who feel it.
Thinking about Death is like that. You’re going to leave this world, or not. But have you ever thought about whether it was worth it?
How does a life go beyond that? Aren’t people still living their lives?
If you knew you were going to die anyway, would you live in fulfillment right now?
Would you just be who you are, knowing that you are dying anyway?
Thinking about Death teaches you how to live properly.
We don’t want it to imprison us, to jail us within the limits of space.
Beyond that fear is freedom.
Fear means there is something you haven’t done yet, a reminder of time.
Going through layers of thought, poetry pulls you out of fear.
The invitation to think.
Asian culture teaches courage, gives you strength, gives power within a man’s will.
Art creates beauty from your soul. To fear nothing and to be yourself is the best way to be beautiful.
Take time to understand your thinking, to grow, to solve your sorrow, to move forward in thought, in language, to deepen yourself and become more of who you are.
This poetry could be a meaningful gift for someone. The reality you could bring to your life, the meaningful conversations we always hope for.
A release of emotion, to do what you were born to do.

Majestic Believer, you let it breathe within you. You honor it by making it part of your world, by listening to its whispers in the quiet corners of your soul.
Because art is not a possession. It is a conversation. And this moment, this choice, is your answer to something deep inside you.
Maybe you have always felt this way. Maybe you only just realized it. But here you are, drawn to a piece that echoes your thoughts. A fragment of poetry, a stroke of color, a whisper of a story reminding you that you are not alone.
