I Have Unpublished My Ebook on Kindle. How Long Do I Allow to Sell It Elsewhere?
Hi friends, it’s Phuong Le Memo 🌿✨ If you’re like me, navigating the self publishing world, making adjustments, and figuring out where your ebook belongs, you might have just unpublished your book from Kindle and are wondering When can I sell it elsewhere
The answer depends on whether your ebook was in KDP Select or not Let’s break it down
If Your Ebook Was NOT in KDP Select
Good news 🎉 If you never enrolled in KDP Select, your ebook was never under Amazon’s exclusivity rules This means that the moment you unpublish it, you are free to sell it anywhere whether that is your own store, another platform, or directly to your readers You do not have to wait
If Your Ebook WAS in KDP Select
This is where things get a little tricky KDP Select requires a 90 day exclusivity period, meaning you cannot sell or distribute your ebook anywhere else while it is active
Even if you have unpublished your book, if it was in KDP Select, you still have to wait until the 90 day period ends To check when your exclusivity expires
1️⃣ Go to your KDP Bookshelf
2️⃣ Click on the ellipsis (…) next to your book
3️⃣ Check if it says Enrolled in KDP Select and find the end date
If your exclusivity period ends on May 1 2025, you can start selling your ebook elsewhere on May 2 2025 If it ends on May 14 2025, you have to wait until May 15 2025
Can You Set Up a Presale Before the Exclusivity Ends
Yes 🌟 You can put your ebook on preorder presale on another store before your KDP Select period is over, as long as
✅ The full book is not available for download until after your exclusivity ends
✅ You do not distribute the ebook anywhere else before that date
So, if your book’s exclusivity ends on May 1, you can set up a presale now and have it release on May 2 on another store
